Nippon Koei Supporting The City Government of Yokohama Visiting Balikpapan and Makassar

Date : Aug 2025
JAKARTA - In early August 2025, representatives of the City Government of Yokohama visited Makassar and Balikpapan, accompanied by several private companies from Japan, including Nippon Koei (NK). NK, as technical consultant, supported the City of Yokohama by arranging and accompanying their visits to these two Indonesian cities.
Makassar (Aug 4th until 5th, 2025)
The team from the City Government of Yokohama was welcomed by the capital investment (DPM) agency and the Integrated one-door service (PTSP) provider of the City Government of Makassar. As quoted in the social media of DPM PTSP Makassar, the agenda of this visit was to do a field observation of the Zero Carbon City project, which is part of the City-to-City cooperation between Yokohama and Makassar.
This visit highlighted low-emission transportation and sustainable energy, and included a visit to Makassar City's public services mall, which contributes to the city's sustainable development agenda. This cross-nation collaboration is expected to accelerate the transition of Makassar city to become an internationally competitive smart and green city.

Balikpapan (Aug 6th until 8th, 2025)
As quoted from the online news of inibalikpapan.com and kaltimpost.id, Bappeda Balikpapan welcomed the team from the City Government of Yokohama. Accompanied by several companies from Japan, the visit to Balikpapan was intended to explore wider cooperation possibilities in the strategic sectors. Priority issues discussed included clean water processing, wastewater processing, drainage system improvement, mass public transportation, and urban traffic management.
On the first day at Balikpapan, the team from Yokohama met Bappeda Litbang of Balikpapan, while on the 2nd day, they visited 2 locations, including the drinking water treatment plant in Batu Ampar KM8, and the wastewater treatment plant in Margasari.
Clean water provision has become the most crucial issue for Balikpapan. With the rapid growth of people and the development of New Indonesian Capital (IKN), together with its surroundings, the necessity of water supply will significantly increase in the future.
Yokohama is well known for its clean water treatment plant system, which is efficient and integrated with advanced technology. This visit will further reinforce the bilateral relationship between these cities and serves as a catalyst for the adoption of advanced technologies and urban systems in each of thecity’s respective development initiatives.
