Electricity Connect 2024

Date : March 2025
JAKARTA - Electricity Connect 2024 is an event held at JCC, Jakarta, Indonesia from 20 - 22 October 2024. It became a showcase of the ASEAN Electricity sector, expertise knowledge, innovative solutions, and foresight the industry leader. The event that took the theme of “Go Beyond Power, Energizing The Future” is a form of collaboration between MKI (The Indonesian Electric Power Society) as the organizer, supported by The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and PT. PLN (Persero).
Nippon Koei (NK), one of Japan’s top civil engineering companies, has contributed more than 2.700 MW of total installed electricity energy generation for Indonesia as both a consultant and an investor. NK is very proud to be an exhibitor at this event, where we can show and share many of our experiences, technology, knowledge, and business achievements in the energy sector with all of the visitors. The other members of ID&E holdings who joined in the same booth with NK are Nippon Koei Energy Solutions (NKES) and PT. Indokoei International (IKI), which is a subsidiary company of NK in Indonesia.

Nippon Koei
For more than 60 years, NK has contributed to the electricity energy generation for Indonesia as a consultant and an investor. It is a great honor for NK to be an international partner of PLN and for its company’s group members to continuously contribute to the society of Indonesia in the Energy Sector. The partnerships of NK with PLN and its group company still continue by having several ongoing projects including starting some new projects.
International Partnerships of NK with PLN and Its Group Company
As stated by Ms. Chairani Rachmatullah, The President of the Board of Directors at PLN Enjineering (PLNE) via her LinkedIn Media, one of the main focuses of PLNE in this event is the international partnership to support the development of renewable and electric energy generation in Indonesia.
NK became one of the international partners of PLNE and the latest project of this partnership is for the development of the Membramo 1 Hydroelectric Power Project (HEPP), in Papua. This shows the continuous contribution and commitment of NK to contribute to Indonesia i'n the Energy Sector and the continuous trust of PLN Group Companies in NK.
As the showcase of the partnership of NK and PLN, we presented information on the 2 significant HEPP projects in Indonesia in this event.
1. Asahan No. 3 HEPP Construction Project
NK undertook the Feasibility Study (FS) in 2004 and continued to Detailed Design (DD) in 2006. The involvement of NK then continued until supervision for the construction phase (CS). With an installed capacity of around 174 MW in total, it may produce around 1,477 GWh per year.

2. Peusangan 1&2 HEPP Construction Project
Peusangan 1&2 is a cascade runoff river plant, it will harness the Peusangan River which drains into Lake Laut Tawar. The annual energy output of 323 GWh will be produced by the installed capacity of 88 MW (22.5 MW x 2 Units for No. 1 and 21.5 MW x 2 units for No. 2).

BIM Technology for HEPP Development
In providing our excellent services to our customers, NK not only has the best engineers for each sector but also involves advanced technology in our work. One of the technologies that NK tries to show is BIM (Building Information Modeling) which we managed to implement for Asahan No. 3 HEPP Development. Asahan No. 3 became the first in Indonesia for HEPP development that utilize BIM. NK bring the demonstration equipment of BIM to this event so the visitors may experience better this BIM implementation in the HEPP development project. Some of the HEPP parts that use BIM technology for its development are the Intake Weir, Headpond, Power House, Headrace Surge Tank, Outdoor Switchyard, and Tailrace Outfall.

The project developed a Common Data Environment (CDE) for collaboration between the Consultant, Civil, Hydro-mechanical, and Electro-mechanical Contractors for Clash detection between major design elements. The BIM Model was developed to optimize the design and construction process, allowing collaborative, fast, and accurate decision-making.
Independent Power Producer (IPP) Investment by NK in Indonesia
NK also contributes to Indonesia as an electricity energy producer by establishing PT. Cikaengan Tirta Energi (CTE) located in Garut, West Java. With a total installed capacity of 7.2 MW (3.6 MW x 2), CTE signed a contract period of 20 years and the COD (Commercial Operation Date) in 2021 with PLN.
