Nippon Koei was founded in 1946 and has since expanded to become one of Japan's leading consulting firms. The Nippon Koei Jakarta Representative Office was established in 1967 to expand the firm's operations in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.
Nippon Koei Jakarta Representative Office has been working closely with the Indonesian government and local companies to promote sustainable development in the country. The office has been involved in developing renewable energy projects, such as geothermal power plants, and providing technical assistance for the construction of eco-friendly buildings.
Nippon Koei was established in June 1946. Amid the post-war turmoil, founder Yutaka Kubota started Shinko Dengyo (the former Nippon Koei), in which he brought together highly skilled engineers to fulfill his ambition of rebuilding Japan.

First Project in Indonesia :
- Nejama diversion tunnel upstream of Brantas River
- Comprehensive development master plan for Brantas River, East Java (a series of development projects followed “Brantas Spirit” until 2002)
- Formulation of Asahan Project: Project feasibility was explained by Mr. Kubota directly to President Soeharto.
- Nippon Koei Jakarta was established and quickly gained exposure as an engineering consulting firm with a reputation for quality.
Conduct of Nationwide Hydro Inventory Study :
From 1982 to 2003, we were involved in the preparation of a national hydropower development program where the study areas were around 1,904,000 km2.
In 1983, Nippon Koei assisted the Government of Indonesia through PT. PLN (Persero) and has completed a hydropower potential study in which 101 schemes were evaluated as promising schemes for development.
First involvement in industrial estate development funded by the private sector.
Establishment of PT. Indokoei International (IKI), the subsidiary company of Nippon Koei in Indonesia.
In early 1993, we were involved in port projects such as design and construction supervision work for the rehabilitation of Ujung Pandang Port and ferry terminals in East Java and Bali.
Awarded contracts for major projects including design and construction supervision work for Peusangan 1 and 2 hydroelectric power plants in Aceh, supervision work for Wonorejo multipurpose dam construction in Java, and Road Rehabilitation Project III in Sumatera Island and West Java Island.
Initially engaged in work in the capital city and surrounding areas to design the Greater Jakarta urban drainage and wastewater disposal, and design and supervision work for the construction of an industrial estate in the Bekasi area.
A multi-year project for design and supervision work for water resources development phases I and II in Jawa-Sumatera-Kalimantan Island, and design and supervision work for an agricultural development project in Eastern Indonesia
Preparation of a master plan, conducting a feasibility study, and designing for rural water supply in Nusa Tenggara Barat and Nusa Tenggara Timur.
We have conducted feasibility studies for the railway electrification and double tracking of the Java mainline project, and "Karang Pilang" water supply system, East Java.
We have prepared a master plan and feasibility study for agriculture and fisheries development in Indonesia, and project management and monitoring work for community empowerment of rural development in Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
Worked on design and construction supervision for water supply in Gunungkidul Regency of Yogyakarta Special Territory.
Establishment of PT. Indokoei International (IKI), the subsidiary company of Nippon Koei in Indonesia.
Various major projects were assigned including design work for the urgent rehabilitation of Tanjung Priok Port, design and construction supervision for Komering irrigation in South Sumatra, and regional design and supervision for the Second Eastern Indonesia Region Transportation Project in Papua.
Appointed by the Japan Red Cross Society (JRCS) for the design and supervision work of the Yogyakarta Earthquake Relief Reconstruction, and conducted design and construction planning for the Tanjung Priok Access Road Construction Project.
In early 2009, we signed a contract for engineering consulting service for the first high-tech mass transport mode, i.e., the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System Project, Bunderan HI-Fatmawati Line, and we worked for the Participatory Irrigation Rehabilitation and Improvement Management Project in Sumatera-Java.

We have prepared a design for regional solid waste management for Mamminasata in South Sulawesi.
Nippon Koei is involved in high-tech mass transport mode for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System (Tender Assistance 2) and in collaboration with PT. Energi Sumber Daya Air Indonesia established the mini hydropower company, PT. Cikaengan Tirta Energi.
We were engaged in the construction supervision work for the Jakarta International Container Terminal expansion including the access road.
We have big contracts for consulting services for the Rentang Irrigation Modernization Project, and construction management consulting services for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit Project Phase 2.
We were involved in engineering services for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit East-West Line Project (Phase I)
Nippon Koei has worked on approximately 842 Projects in various sectors and services. Currently, we are expanding our business by developing new business operations with an investment program, such as building an IPP (Independent Power Production), providing funding infusion to other companies, building newbusiness schemes, and providing technology as well as data analytics services.
The Nippon Koei Group established the Integrated Design & Engineering Holdings Co., Ltd. (ID&E Holdings) and transitioned into a holding company structure on July 3, 2023.
The "Design" & "Engineering" express the company as a comprehensive consulting and engineering company that includes the energy business in addition to the "civil engineering and construction" advocated in the previous long-term management strategy. It also expresses that the Group will integrate diverse fields and promote one-stop business in the future.
